Application Procedures for the New Zealand Refugee Program
Application procedures for the New Zealand
refugee program
There is no special refugee program in New Zealand. You can, however, apply for a refugee or protected person visa if you intend to seek asylum or protection as a refugee in New Zealand.
- Ø You must satisfy the following requirements in
order to be qualified for a refugee or protected person visa:
- Ø You must be outside of your country of origin.
- Ø You must be unable or unwilling to go back to
your home country due to a fear of abuse, harm, or persecution there.
Ø You must adhere to New Zealand law's
definition of a refugee or protected person.
You
must fill out an application form and submit supporting materials, including
identification documents and proof of your fear of persecution or harm, in
order to be considered for a refugee or protected person visa. The police
clearance certificates from any nation you have been in for longer than six
months in the previous ten years must also be shown.
It
is advised that you seek the advice of a knowledgeable immigration counsel or
lawyer as the application process for a refugee or protected person visa can be
complicated.
You
can also get support and instructions on the procedure from the New Zealand
Immigration Service if you already reside in New Zealand and are applying for
asylum or refugee status.
